What's Happened/Happening

Here's what's on our calendars right now:

Cut It Out! – A New Book from the IFMA Foundation

We've been working with the IFMA Foundation and a world-class team of authors and thought leaders to produce a practical action guide for facilities managers that will help them contribute to corporate cost-reductions and efficiency improvements right now, when the need is so high.

The final version of Cut It Out! has just gone to the publisher; it will be available for the first time at the October 7-9 World Workplace 2009 conference in Orlando, Florida, where we and the other chapter authors will be presenting our research and tips for surviving the current economy.

We hope to see you there. We're not only on a panel discussion with our co-authors, but we're also presenting a case study of an incredible transformation that's taken place over the past three years at SCAN Health. Diane Coles, our co-presenter, is the Director of Workplace Services at SCAN. Her work on the SCAN transformation has already earned her the 2009 Award of Excellence from the IFMA Orange County Chapter. And, by the way, Chapter 5 of Cut It Out! features Diane's story.

And there's more to come. We can't tell you exactly what's going to happen at World Workplace, but there's some major national recognition coming Diane's way. You'll have to come to Orlando to find out what that means—or read about it here in the October newsletter.

Travels with Charlie

Charlie has just returned from an invited presentation on the future of work at the 2009 Greater Philadelphia Leadership Exchange. And he's headed to Boston on September 24-25, where he'll be speaking about flexible work for hourly employees at the Fall Members Meeting of the  Boston College Center for Work & Family

The Workplace Innovation and Performance Network Fall Meeting

Our Workplace Innovation and Performance Network (WIPN) members will be meeting in Dallas in November for Executive Networks' "Fall Classic" meeting. We'll be joining up with several other network groups composed primarily of senior HR professionals to explore issues and challenges related to organizational performance and the triple bottom line.

The meeting will be highlighted by conversations with experts like well-known author and leadership guru Marshall Goldsmith, Duke University business school professor Tony O'Driscoll, and Bill Shireman, President and CEO of Future 500.

WIPN is a private, members-only network. But we always welcome inquiries and would be happy to discuss the benefits of membership with you at any time. Current WIPN members include Computer Associates, Hewlett-Packard, McKesson, Herman Miller, SCAN Health, and Trizetto Software Group.

Send us a note if you are interested in joining the group; WIPN provides a special opportunity to engage in confidential conversations about the future of work with a world-class group of senior business, real estate, facilities, HR, and IT executives.

Other Plans

We also continue to travel regularly on private business with individual clients. Stay tuned for last-minute plans that depend completely on our beloved clients and future clients.

If we're in your area and have a few minutes, we'd love to see you for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or "refreshments" any time after 5 PM local time (and you know what that means).

And please follow us on Twitter for more current updates on the future of work and our travel plans.

Give us a shout or send us a note, and if we can squeeze out some time, we'd love to say hello and share some good ideas the old-fashioned way: face-to-face, glass in hand.
